Feasibility studies
TRT has been active in the international market since its foundation. It was early involved in services and research projects on behalf of the European Commission. The expertise gained participating in European project teams since the 6th Framework Programme has lead to activate an intense and solid co-operation with research institutes, universities, private companies in several European countries. TRT has been part of a number of consortia engaged into the development of policy assessment methodologies, future scenarios, modelling transport and strategic impacts assessment tools.
The main areas where the research activities of TRT are specialised concern transport policy, transport models, economic assessment, freight logistics as well as the linkages between the transport sector, the energy issue and the technological development.
TRT is co-operating with many Directorates General of the
European Commission and Joint Research Centres, the European
Parliament and is actually involved in several research projects, of
which in several cases is also leading partner.

TRACECA (TRAnsport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia) Project
The IDEA (Transport Interoperability and Dialogue between the EU, Caucasus and
Asian) project is funded by the European Commission (EC) within the framework of
the TRACECA Programme (TRAnsport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia). The TRACECA
Programme, originally established in 1993 under the EU TACIS programme,
currently gathers 13 countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan,
Ukraine and Uzbekistan), and is committed in promoting the economic and
political development of the Black Sea Region, Caucasus and Central Asia through
improvement of the international transport links. The Programme works through an
Intergovernmental Commission (ICG), set up in 2000 with the overall purpose of
monitoring the implementation of the Programme. The ICG is supported by a
Permanent Secretariat, established in Baku as an executive body of the IGC.

Pedemontana-Brebemi interconnection - Traffic demand and cost benefit analysis
The study verified the traffic demand attracted by the new with
fee Motorway Interconnection between “Pedemontana” and the direct
Brescia-Milano (named IPB), in the road map scheme foreseen in the
study 2003, according to the regional limitations (east of
Boltiere route, closed collection system and reduction of the
number of exits). The role of the road is identified within the
provincial territorial planning. The survey in support of the
Province of Bergamo PTCP defines Trevigliese plan and
municipalities of Isola as “the area with the higher territorial
density, both residential and industrial, after Bergamo one” that,
from the highway road point of view, includes for “the radial
links which end in the main town SS 525, SS42, etc., critical
junctions represented by Adda crossing, urban centres and
Treviglio area cross”.

Milano-Brescia motorway - Feasibility study for the new motorway link Milano-Brescia
The 80 km long, three lanes, tolled A4 motorway link connecting Milan with
Brescia and Bergamo is subject to systematic traffic congestion and so is
the whole road network in this densely populated region in the north of
Italy. In the year 1996, the Chambers of Commerce of the three provinces
(Brescia, Bergamo and Milan) took the lead of sponsoring investment in the
new motorway link between Brescia and Milano to add up capacity to the
road corridor. Three years later, Brebemi, a company whose shareholders
include banks and main motorways concessionaires, was established to act
as the Promoter of a B.O.T. scheme in adoption of the new legislation for
Public Procurement and Project Financing in Italy. Since the beginning,
TRT provided technical support to the whole process delivering
prefeasibility analysis (1996 - 97), comparison of different project’s
alternatives (1998), support to the Preliminary Project to be presented at
the Ministry of Public Works (1999 – 2001) and to the Final Project
(2008).
