Energy and environment
The growing need for a sustainable and secure energy supply challenges the transport sector, which is one of the major consumer of fossil fuels and responsible for much of energy consumption. Understanding the dynamics linking the transport sector, the energy sector and the environment is therefore a key asset for assessing policies and identifying strategies for pursuing alternatives.
The CO2 issue, firmly placed in the centre of European policy, now appears as the main driver of initiatives that aim to reduce emissions. Institutional policies at different levels (European, National, Regional) also have a key role in providing information, specifications, incentives, guidelines that will lead to virtuous behaviours by businesses facing the business environmental sustainability. The tools available to institutions are manifold and in some cases may encourage companies to adopt greener solutions.
TRT, thanks to the expertise developed in this area and the
participation in important European research projects, in which it
often assumed the role of leading partner, is able to offer its own
expertise and skill to both private and public operators.

HOP!
The HOP! project is a research study supported by the European
Commission and developed within the VI Framework Programme. The
project was aimed at evaluating the direct and indirect impacts of
temporary and/or permanent increase in oil price on the whole
European economy, with special reference to impacts on energy
sector, transport sector and employment.

Ex-tremis
The overall objective of the Ex-TREMIS project is to build a
comprehensive database of specific energy consumption, emission
factors and total emissions covering the 27 EU member states for
rail, maritime and air transport for the years 1980-2005 and with
projections for their development up to the year 2030. Collected
data and results can be extracted through a web-based interface
and directly plugged into models or used by the general public.

Transport, energy and environmental policies
TRT Trasporti e Territorio was in charge of this study on behalf of the
Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the European Commission in
order to support European Parliament actions in the field of transport,
energy and environmental policies. The aim of this study was to identify
economic and politically feasible measures able to significantly enhance
energy efficiency and to reduce negative impacts of transport activities.
